Audience: Employees likely to witness or discover a release of hazardous substances/materials.


Duration: 6 Hours

 

Prerequisites: Persons should be trained to notify the proper authorities in the event of a release.

 

Description:

This course covers the steps to take when witnessing or discovering a release of hazardous substances/materials.

First Responder (Operations) - Level 2


Audience: Employees likely to witness or discover a release of hazardous substances/materials.


Duration: 8 Hours


Prerequisites: Requires Level 1 competency and 8 hours of additional training or proven experience, in specific competencies.

 

Description:

Employees should be able to respond to releases of hazardous substances in a defensive manner, without trying to stop the release. They should take action to protect nearby persons, property and/or environment by containing the release from a safe distance, keeping it from spreading, and preventing exposure.

HAZMAT Technician - Level 3

Audience: Industrial HAZMAT response team member, individual and firefighter.


Duration: 24 Hours

 

Description:

Employee responds aggressively to releases of hazardous substances. Responder can approach the point of release to plug, patch, or otherwise stop it. Requires 24 hours of training and proven experience and competence.

HAZMAT Specialist - Level 4

Audience: Firefighters and industrial HAZMAT teams.


Duration: 8 Hours

 

Prerequisites: Requires 24 hours of Level 3 training & proven experience in specific areas.

 

Description:

Employee responds with and in support of Level 3 HAZMAT Technicians. This person will have specific knowledge of various hazardous substances. May act as a liaison with federal, state, and local officials with regard to site activities.

On-Scene Incident Commander - Level 5

Audience: Firefighters and industrial HAZMAT teams.

 

Duration: 8 Hours

 

Prerequisites: Requires 24 hours of Level 2 training & additional competencies

 

Description:

This person assumes control of the incident beyond the First Responder Operations level and directs all on-scene activities by implementing contingency and emergency response plans.
