This unit examines reasons organizations are moving to teams and the special challenges this shift poses for team leaders. Participants analyze the forces moving them toward teams at work and discover how their own approach to leadership must evolve as a result. With this analysis, leaders develop a personal plan to reshape their roles for more effective results. (Team Leadership)
Building a Foundation of Trust (4 hours)
This session helps leaders learn what to say and do to elicit the best efforts from team members in a world of fast-changing markets, frequent organizational upheavals, and increasing employee diversity. Participants explore how “The Basic Principles” can help them create the sense of trust that teams need in order to be creative, take risks, and try new approaches at each stage in the team’s development. Launching and Refueling Your Team: Tools and Techniques (4 hours)
All teams need special care at various times throughout their existence. This unit consists of 14 tools and techniques leaders can use to get their teams started and keep them on track. Examples include: preparing a mission statement, setting goals, evaluating progress, learning from mistakes, celebrating successes, and disbanding a team. (Team Leadership)

Expanding Your Team’s Capabilities (4 hours)
Fully empowered teams can handle many tasks and responsibilities once reserved for supervisors and managers. In this unit, participants master skills needed to decide when teams are ready to take on tasks and responsibilities. This prepares teams for their new tasks with coaching and/or training. They can then set up these tasks so that teams can really “own” the work and do it right. Participants also explore ways to “step back in” when necessary. (Team Leadership)

Helping Your Team Reach Consensus (4 hours)
No team can realize full potential until it can make complex decisions involving many players. Participants discuss when and how to use consensus as a decision-making method. They practice guiding a team through the consensus process to reach agreement and gain commitment. (Team Leadership)

It is critical to learn faster than the competition because the business environment is changing rapidly. This unit presents awareness activities and skill-building exercises that help participants create a viable, adaptable organization.
