The following PLC courses are geared towards controllers commonly used in robotics operations.  
Software currently available: RSLogix 5 or 500, 6200 or APS, Rockwell A.I. (ICOM).  All courses can be customized to meet specific needs.

Introduction to PLC/SLC Controls and Software 24 hours

This course will provide participants with a basic understanding of PLC/SLC controllers. Course includes   Topics include:

  • Identify the function of all major components of the system, including: processor, power supplies, input/output cards, block I/O modules, chassis, panel view, etc.
  • Properly configure and install cables necessary for processor to computer communications
  • Introduction to addressing and I/O tags
  • Identify function, location and operation of the program and data files
  • Introduction of software features for searching and verifying status of I/O bits for troubleshooting
  • Demonstrate use of LED indicators to diagnose problems and  take corrective action
  • File utilities for saving/loading of all associated program files

Allen Bradley PLC-5 or SLC – Week 1       40 hours

This course will cover the basic skills necessary for installation, programming and basic troubleshooting of either the PLC-5 or SLC processor systems.   Topics in Week 1 include:

  • Identify the function of all major components, including: processor capabilities, power supplies, input/output cards, block I/O modules, chassis, panel view, etc.
  • Properly configure and install cable necessary for processor to computer communications.
  • Identify function, location and operation of the program and data files.
  • Hardware and dip switch settings
  • Demonstrate the use of the programming terminal and software
  • Identify the operation of logic instructions for:  Relay XIC XIO, Output OTE OTL OUT, One-Shot ONS, Timers TON TOF RTO, Counters CTU CTD, Move MOV
  • Demonstrate use of LED indicators to diagnose problems and take corrective action.

Allen Bradley PLC-5 or SLC – Week 2       40 hours

This course will expand upon the basic skills covered in the previous week.  Topics in Week 2 include:

  • Review of major topics covered in Week 1
  • Basic communication types, including: scanner, adapter, DH+, serial, Control Net, Ether Net
  • Communications set-up and troubleshooting
  • Programming software, including: editing online and offline, searching, I/O Forces
  • Special troubleshooting software features and shortcuts
  • Use of logic instructions for: Relay XIC XIO, Output OTE OTL OUT, One-Shot ONS, Timers TON TOF RTO, Counters CTU CTD, Move MOV

Allen Bradley PLC-5 or SLC – Week 3     40 hours

This course will reinforce the skills covered in previous weeks and will provide participants with more advanced instruction. Topics in Week 3 include: 

  • Review of major topics covered in Week 1 and Week 2
  • Compare Math LIM CMP GEQ GRT EQU LEQ LES
  • Compute Math CPT ADD SUB MUL DIV
  • Move and Convert MOV MVM TOD FRD
  • Logic AND OR XOR NOT
  • Control JSR JMP SBR LBL MCR AFI RET AFI
