Are Your Employees At Risk? Why Do You Need Bloodborne Pathogens Training?
Understanding the Safety training compliance requirements for Bloodborne Pathogens can be puzzling, and time consuming for many employers. Determining which employees are required to receive the training, the types of training to be performed, and the written policies or plans that must be developed can also be complicated without the proper direction.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires training for people who are at risk for occupational exposure to human blood, body fluids or other potentially infectious materials of human origin.
The criteria for determining if your employees are at risk must be included in your companies Exposure Control Plan.
Employees designated "at risk" must be offered a Hepatitis B vaccination and titer, paid for by the employer. According to OSHA, the vaccination series, which takes 6 months to complete, must begin within 10 days of the risk of exposure.
Employees not designated as "at risk" may still require an awareness level of training to assure that they avoid exposure to the materials.
Delta College Corporate Services can provide assistance in development of written programs and policies, employee classification, and training implementation to ensure that, as an employer, you are in full compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.
DCCS Receives Award Of Excellence From ISPI
Delta College Corporate Services (DCCS) and i3Logic of Pontiac received an Award of Excellence at the International Society for Performance Improvement 2008 Conference held recently in New York City. The award recognizes outstanding results derived from the successful application of Human Performance Technology to human performance problems, needs, or opportunities.
DCCS and i3Logic developed an innovative and comprehensive training program for a financial system conversion at Teachers Credit Union (TCU) of South Bend IN. The program featured a blend of instructor-led and e-learning courses as well as on-line exercises and tests that TCU employees completed from their workstations. The training ensured that employees were fully prepared for their system conversion.
Al McKay, Learning Solutions Consultant with DCCS, attended the conference and accepted the award.
Founded in 1962, the International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI) is the leading international association dedicated to improving productivity and performance in the workplace. ISPI represents more than 10,000 international and chapter members throughout the United States, Canada, and 40 other countries. ISPI's mission is to develop and recognize the proficiency of our members and advocate the use of Human Performance Technology. Assembling an Annual Conference & Expo and other educational events like the Institute, publishing books and periodicals, and supporting research are some of the ways ISPI works toward achieving this mission.
